Why evolution favors fasting and industry funding

Asking the right diet questions Nov 1, 2017 at http://healthfully.org/rjk/id14.html
1. Can we trust the information system? Can we trust Monsanto’s claims based upon their in house and funded research on the BT toxin that is found in all of their GMO corn? Should we have trusted tobacco’s claims about the benefits of smoking? Can we trust the corporate media that carries industry generated science, even when it is dressed as independent and critical? Would the media offend the source of their revenues? And when they seem to do so, is that just part of the deception to create a belief of protecting and informing the public? Then should we trust the same corporate media’s advice on healthful diet, the causes of the health disasters, and how to lower risks? Who profits from bad analysis and advice? Is there regulatory capture? Can we trust our corporatist state to regulate industry & media to assure the public’s well-being? Is there a shadow government? What has been done to tobacco and alcohol reveals what has and will be done about the marketing of sugar-laden products, except that our children are protected from alcohol and tobacco, but not from sugar.

2. Do industries and the media deliberately cause cognitive dissonance (confusion causing inaction or wrong actions) by flooding the information system with loads of bad advices dressed as science? Do the media tell us daily of miracle foods, foods to avoid, wonder diets, and incorrect causes of the age related conditions (such as the lipid hypothesis and genes)?

3. Can big dollars change what dieticians, doctors, and some scientists believed in from about 1910 through to 1980 about a healthful diet (healthful fats and fattening carbs)? Does bucks and advertising create markets and change behavior?

4. Are there talking points for the media and Continuing Medical Education (CME) classes?

5. Why are the diseases of western society, but for cancer, virtually unknown among the elderly of the aboriginal peoples on their traditional diet? Some of the aboriginal peoples eat a diet over 70% of quickly-digested, simple carbohydrates, yet they don’t have those age related conditions (see Burkitt and Trowel, 1981, the best study of them), why???

6. Why is it that when these aboriginal peoples switch to a western diet that they have the same list of age related conditions at a rate comparable or greater than those in the industrial nations? Why does going from under 15 grams a day of sugar to 200 grams cause this???
So what causes the yo-yo diets and how to avoid it? While there are many downstream consequences, it all starts with the high sugar diet (total sugar averages 153 lbs. yearly, all sources with half of Americans eating more). 90% of fructose comes from the disaccharide sucrose (table sugar). The other half of sucrose is glucose; starches are pure glucose. Our body metabolically was NOT designed for all that fructose--about 85 lbs. per year. Aboriginal peoples average under 10 pounds of fructose a year. Wild fruits are low in sugar & seasonal. Thus, we cannot metabolize the fructose in our organs and muscles like we do with glucose, so all the fructose is absorbed by the liver and converted either to glucose to produce ATPs (the energy molecule) or pyruvate to produce fat. Fructose is also a NET 15 times more reactive than glucose; and it attaches to proteins in a process called glycation—a bad thing. The high fructose content in the liver damages it, both by glycation and excessive fat storage; this damage results in the condition of insulin resistance (IR), which occurs first in the liver and then in tissues throughout the body as cells resist inulin message to absorb more blood glucose. The pancreas then secretes excess insulin to lower blood glucose. Insulin is a gateway-regulatory hormone; it regulates other hormones. It is the starting point for the dysregulation of the weight-control system mainly through its effect upon the hormone leptin. In promoting the metabolism of glucose, insulin causes cells, including those in the liver, to store fat instead of metabolize it. IR is causal for weight gain and fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Our high-sugar diet is the MAJOR STARTING POINT for the conditions associated with the western diet. Other causes are minor, and used by industries to create confusion.

So what are the major myths (all contradicted by journal published scientific research--search scholar.google.com for them) promoting the DIABESITY pandemic (diabetes + obesity).

1. That there isn’t a complex hormonal weight-regulatory system which on a natural diet keeps mammals, reptiles, and birds at their ideal weight for survival of the species.

2. That the vast majority of us can through will-power trump this regulatory system, lose weight, and keep it off by eating less and exercise more (take in less calories than we burn).

3. That fatty foods (energy dense) promote obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease; and the worse of the lipids are cholesterol and saturated fats—the lipid hypothesis.

4. That the best diet is one very low in fats (thus high in carbs for energy).

5. That sugar is empty calories, and that the fruit sugar fructose (one half of the disaccharide table sugar, sucrose) is healthful because it doesn’t raise insulin level.

6. That eating snacks between meals is good because it keeps us from having big meals.

Evolution has made fasting easier than an energy-restricted diet (ERD): Allow me to explain why. Eating less has 2 big issues circumvented by fasting plus fasting has two big advantages. Mammals have evolved two different responses, one limited food; the other no food. What follows applies to those who are IR and have kept their weight on for over 2 years. With ERD the body will adjust, typically at 2 months, by reducing metabolism from 25% to 40% to conserve fat and also increases appetite. Consider what happens to a person who has reduced their caloric intake from 2,000 calories to an average of 1,200—40%. At about 2 months, the fat conserving mechanism will kick in. Instead of metabolizing sufficient fat to make up the deficit of 800 calories, a 30% reduction in metabolism occurs, thus she burns now 1,400 calories and thus only 200 calories of fat. Moreover, with the reduction in metabolism will cause lethargy and its negative mental consequences. The fat tissue secrets the hormone leptin, which besides reducing metabolism and increases appetite. This phenomenon is the main cause as to why those who have a long-term weight issue put back their weight: biology rules.
When mammals run out of food a different evolutionary system kicks in, one in which the hormones known as catechol amines cause an increase in mental activity, uplifted mood, and increased metabolism by about 10%. This improvement occurs because when out of food, the mammal needs to find more. This is why I regularly skip breakfast; I feel better and am more productive. Breakfast is the most important meal, so we were taught by Kellogg’s. I chose breakfast because the fast begins while I sleep, it is easier to extend until noon, and I feel better than when I skip lunch or dinner, because the body in the morning is already in the fat burning mode—no transmission. All what I have just stated on fasting is in this link to a 13-minutes documentary. On my website is fasting is easy, different diets for different needs.
Adding very low carbs (new Atkins diet or ketogenic diet) improves the results for CER and between fast by keeping insulin low and thus promoting the metabolism of fat.
My website’s video page (http://healthfully.org/rg/id4.html ) has over 100 documentaries and lectures on diet, fasting, sugar, and related topics such as the lipid hypothesis; topics that are on the verboten list of our corporate media. And at /rh section of my site (and elsewhere) is extensive material on diet, fasting, metabolic syndrome, and much more. And there is an internal Google search engine on most pages to aide in finding topics.
Important concepts: tobacco science, tobacco ethics, regulatory capture, government façade of protecting the public from corporations, IR, fast, and excessive fructose as slow poison.
