Prof. Peter Gotzsche has published 2 books on neuroleptic drugs; what was quackery, Freudian type talk therapy, has turned in the most pernicious of medical practices, worse than bloodletting, and by numbers infinitely worse than frontal lobotomy and electro-shock therapy. In 2015 he published Deadly Psychiatry and Organised Denial. The 500,000 yearly deaths from drug therapy is a gross under estimate for US and EU. He missed over half the neuroleptic sedative drugs used for other conditions such as pain, hypertension, COPD, muscle relaxant, restless leg syndrome, and dozens of other conditions. This book like his Deadly Medicine and Organize Crime (2013, BMA award for best book) it covers all major points. In 2022 he wrote Mental Health Survival Kit and Withdrawal from Psychiatric Drugs. The fix is to gradually reduce dose (buy a pill cutter) over a year.
To this I would add the upper, amphetamine, 10 to 30 or more depending on degree of depression and withdrawal syndrome. The bashing of amphetamine is another case of a good drug becoming a bad one once it is off patent. Profits before people. They pull out the example of the under 5% who take high doses (over 200 mgs daily). It is like using as an example a person who drinks a quart of fortified wine, dry sherry as proof of the physical and brain harm caused by wine.
