There is an alarming laxity in the production of research, education of public and doctors, and standards of FDA approval for drugs, as well as the monitoring of safety and effectiveness of drugs.  A link to 2 chapters of the best book on how big PHARMA deceives us and much more by Doctor Marcia Angell (Harvard Professor and former editor of New England Journal of Medicine)

For the sake of balance, the California Skeptics finds that not only are the pharmaceutical companies deserving of blame, the quack treatment industry, the fools without common sense, but also those who can feel with their brains what is not found in their bodies.

The greatest cause of the production of imaginary conditions is bad pharma, which in following the economic imperatives of capitalism creates conditions such as Premenstrual  dysphoric disorder (PMDD). “(PMDD) is a severe and disabling form of premenstrual syndrome affecting 3–8% of menstruating women.[3] The disorder consists of a "cluster of affective, behavioral and somatic symptoms" that recur monthly during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.[3] PMDD was added to the list of depressive disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 2013 Wiki.”  The first line of treatment is SSRIs, drugs that are more addicting and harder to come off of than heroin.  Signs of pathologies are elevated to conditions needing drugs, such as hypertension which in over 90% of cases is a sign of atherosclerosis, occluded, hard, arteries, or which the heart must pump harder to supply oxygen to muscles, organs, and other tissues.  These conditions owe their existence to the marketers of drugs, who invent conditions, and the educate doctors and publics about them.
